Then who’s watching the cops? One answer to that question comes from North Syracuse Mayor John Heindorf, who says his village hired a private eye to shadow Police Chief David Wilkinson early in 2005, based on suspicions Wilkinson was working at his other job as Marcellus chief while on the North Syracuse payroll.
The gumshoe found no evidence of that, The Syracuse Post-Standard reports, but in the end it didn’t help Wilkinson. He’s facing trial, along with two other officers, on charges that allege just the kind of fraud the private eye didn’t find.
We don’t know whether the chief had any inkling that he was being watched.
