You have to wonder if former Syracuse Mayor Roy Bernardi felt the slap in his sleep down in suburban Washington, D.C. early today, when the papers hit the streets in his hometown.
Now the number two man at HUD, Bernardi has been accused of faking his way through eight years at City Hall. Today, the Syracuse Post-Standard’s editorial page took him to task for appearing to do the same thing, at a congressional hearing earlier this week on the failed response to Hurricane Katrina.
While they were at it, the editorial writers also lambasted Deputy Secretary Bernardi for accepting the Bush administration’s proposed cuts in HUD grants to cities. The cuts are being called a disaster, by the people who run Syracuse today.
