Aztecs Sacrificed, Orange Victorious

March 20, 2007

associated-presskevin-rivoli.jpgIt must have been a long plane ride home to San Diego State, after the 80-to-64 beating the Aztecs took at the Carrier Dome last night.

A record NIT crowd of 26,752 urged the Orange on to the runaway win. The fact that satellite TV was the only other way to see the game helped to fill the seats, and showed the team again how high fan spirit has soared, since the NCAA rejected SU.

Next stop for the Orange, Clemson University in South Carolina for a 7pm game Wednesday night. Cable viewers will be able to catch that one on ESPN2.

Here’s more detail on how SU beat San Diego State, as provided by The Syracuse Post Standard.

Something In The Water

March 20, 2007

Remember the ironic humor of that great film classic, “Casablanca?” Humphrey Bogart, as Rick, delivered the goods:

Captain Renault: What in heaven’s name brought you to Casablanca?
Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
Captain Renault: The waters? What waters? We’re in the desert.
Rick: I was misinformed.

saratoga-spa.jpgToday, we learn from the Associated Press that people who go to Saratoga for the waters have been misinformed. Chances are, the same health benefits (if any) derived from the spring water baths there are pretty much available in the tub at home.

That’s because the mineral water bubbling up from underground at Saratoga State Park has been heavily diluted with heated city water for about the past 20 years. Apparently, it started when the water got too cold. A heater used to warm the spring water broke down, and nobody ever got it fixed.

This frothy fraud by the private contractor operating the spa surfaced when the Spitzer administration took over in Albany. Now that it’s out in the open, the park will start telling those who come to Saratoga “for the waters,” what they’re actually sitting in.

Now, about that Saratoga drinking water sold in those cool blue bottles… all this makes you wonder where that comes from, doesn’t it?

Digg!
